WPSU Prepares for Our Town: Portage

Posted by Whitney on 10/04 at 10:15 AM

Big volunteer meeting on Wednesday is quickly approaching!  The “Our Town: Portage” interest meeting will be held Wednesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. at the Portage Area High School. Everyone is welcome to attend to learn more about the project and to participate.

I’m excited to learn more about Portage and to share stories from this community with our viewers.  During my first official visit on September 22, cloudy skies and rain tapered off and I had hoped for rainbows welcoming me to the area. The smiling faces of Bob and Bonnie Fox, Dick Rice, Ray Vandzura, Shane Tarachko, and Joe Gibbin inspired even greater excitement as it became apparent how committed this community has already been to the project!

I’m hoping for a nice turnout of potential storytellers on Wednesday.  There are so many possible stories to include in the program. I’ll be arriving in Portage around 5 p.m. to check out the Portage Station Museum with Bob and Bonnie Fox.  Crossing my fingers for some pretty weather. Luckily, Shane Tarachko did not disappoint with some great pics of the town since the rain prevented me from snapping any shots during my last visit.

Thanks to Whitney and all her crew on doing such an exceptional job on the ‘Our Town - Portage’ video.  Everyone in town it seems liked the video and I have heard nothing but great comments. Thanks for spotlighting Portage. We love our town and hope others see us in the same light.
