Our Town
Bellwood Next Stop For Our Town Series!

Jessica and I visited Bellwood today as the flowers were blooming and the green grass just started springing up. We snapped some cute pictures and met some great folks. We’re excited to get started on the 61st episode of the “Our Town” series. We’ll be holding the community meeting on Wednesday, May 11th at 6:30 p.m. at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library. We hope to see you there!

DuBois Welcomes Back WPSU for 60th Episode of Our Town

The Our Town production team conducted 27 interviews on Sunday, April 17th at the Winkler Gallery of Fine Arts in DuBois for the 60th installment of the Our Town series. DuBois welcomed us with open arms — keeping us well fed with food from Luigi’s Ristorante and donuts from Scotty’s Donuts. The artwork at the Winkler Gallery provided the perfect backdrop for some great stories about the area. We look forward to sharing the program with everyone when it premieres on WPSU on Thursday, June 9 at 8 p.m.

WPSU Excited to Share “Our Town: Bedford” with Storytellers and Bedford Community!

We’re wrapping up the editing of “Our Town: Bedford” program. The twenty-eight stories highlight the local attractions, businesses, history, and people of the Bedford area. WPSU had a great time visiting the Bedford community for the 59th episode in the Our Town series. Be sure to tune in for the premiere on Thursday, May 12 at 8 p.m. on WPSU. The program will also stream online at wpsu.org/live during the broadcast.

Suzie Wong’s Egg Rolls

Chef Harrison Schailey and Kit Henshaw are the owners of Harrison’s Wine Grill & Catering in State College, which currently supports more than 20 local food businesses. One such business is Suzie Wong’s Egg Rolls.

McIntyre’s Candies in Altoona

This Sunday, children will hunt for Easter baskets filled with milk chocolate bunnies, colorful jellybeans, peanut butter eggs, and speckled malted milk balls. Some of those treats will come from McIntyre’s Candies, a central Pennsylvania shop that still hand-makes its confections.
Earlier this week, WPSU’s Emily Wiley discovered the sweet history of this Altoona landmark. Listen to audio and see photos from the candy shop.

Nothing says Easter like a bowl full of brightly colored eggs! Whether you dip the eggs into blue or purple dye or paint them with pink polka dots and yellow stripes, consider buying local eggs this holiday season.

Easter Ham

Easter is just a few days away, and traditionally, most families feast on ham on this holiday. While the grocery store may seem like a convenient place to purchase your main course, those hams have probably been shipped across the country in plastic. Perhaps you should rethink your vendor this year.

DuBois Meeting Promises Lots of Great Stories for June Our Town Program

We had an excellent turnout for last night’s community meeting for the Our Town: DuBois project at The DuBois Business College. After discussing the project and the production process, we asked for story ideas. You’ll see folks shooting video and still photos for stories on Luigi’s Ristorante, DuBois Regional Medical Center, a local barbershop quartet, the soap box derby, DuBois Historical Society, Domtar, DuBois Area Concert Series, the school district, among others. We look forward to hearing all about these stories and more on Sunday, April 17 when we interview the storytellers at the Winkler Gallery of Fine Arts.

East West Crossings in Lemont is home to teas, books, gifts, and art. Their mission is to build a peaceful environment to help customers relax and warm their spirits.
“We have created a place where people pause from their busy lives, relax alone or with a friend or two, and rejuvenate,” says Ruth Nissly, assistant at East West Crossings. Ruth looks forward to seeing regular customers and meeting local artists and musicians who have entertained or displayed work at the shop.
