Our Town

Hollidaysburg Enjoys Their Favorite Town

Over 100 requests have come in for the Our Town: Hollidaysburg DVD. We even received a call from Hong Kong. We heard from a lot of people who enjoyed the program and learned some new things about Hollidaysburg. Thanks to all of those who came over to the WPSU studio to help answer the phones. There is a new picture in the photo gallery of us when we were on the air, with all of you working hard and me talking away. The show is available to watch on the “Our Town” website so you can watch it again or let those who missed it know that they can see it. People can still order their own copy of the show.

The Ethics of Drilling

The June 9th, 2009 WPSU story by Cynthia Berger on the possibility of taxing gas drilling on the Marcellus shale that runs underneath much of Pennsylvania did a very nice job of explaining both the logistical difficulties of this sort of drilling and the competing plans to generate revenue for the state from this important natural resource. The story explained the Natural Resource Severance Tax Act, proposed by Governor Rendell and supported by Democrats in the state senate, which would levy a tax on businesses producing gas from the shale. For its part, the House Republican Energy Task Force has offered a counter proposal to lease 390,000 acres of state forest land for drilling in order to generate revenue for the state.

June Pledge Drive Exceeds Goal

WPSU-TV raised $63,279 during our June pledge drive. That’s 141% of our $45,000 goal!

Our Town

Our Town: Hollidaysburg to Premier Thursday, June 4th at 8pm

Several Hollidaysburgers will travel to the WPSU studios this Thursday, June 4th to help present the 50th program in the series, Our Town: Hollidaysburg. They will be answering phone calls from friends and neighbors back in Hollidaysburg calling in to get a DVD copy of the program that was created by volunteers from the community. The DVDs are available to viewers who make a membership pledge to support public television station WPSU. For a pledge of $75 you will receive one DVD of the show and for $120 pledge you will get two DVDs. Our Town: Hollidaysburg will not only be broadcast on WPSU-TV, but also on the web. Watch it live online at 8pm tonight.

Everyone Enjoyed the Our Town: Hollidaysburg Preview

On Tuesday May 26th at Jack’s Colonial Hotel Grille just under fifty people viewed the almost completed version of Our Town: Hollidaysburg. The attendees were very complimentary of the program. We previewed the show so the volunteers can see their segments and so we can make sure all the the video is in the right place. After the show ran we discussed a few changes that needed to be made and enjoyed the refreshment made by John Seely’s team at the Grille.
