Our Town: Hollidaysburg

Dick Knupp, the Our Town editor is nearing completion on the Hollidaysburg program. You can see pictures of him hard at work. Click on Gallery on the Our Town website. We will be previewing the program for the volunteers and their families on May 26th at 7pm in the dining room of Jack’s Capitol Hotel Grille. This is a private showing, but everyone will get to see it on Thursday, June 4th at 8pm on WPSU and on this website. So tell people everywhere that they will be able to watch on their computers at wpsu.org You can also download a promotional poster for the show at http://wpsu.org/assets/pdf/ourtown/hollidaysburg_poster.pdf.

The are so many interesting stories in the show. Here is a list of the different topics: The history of the Canals, The Hollidaysburg schools, The Discovery Garden, The Historic District, The Phoenix Fire Department, The Franciscan Friars – St. Bernardine Monastery, McLanahan Corporation, The Arts in the schools and Hollidaysburg area, Alleghany Lutheran Social Ministries, Downtown Hollidaysburg, The Courthouse, Meadows Custard, The Genealogical Society, A tour of several of the Taverns, Pubs, and Restaurants in the area, The Public Library, The Cemeteries,
The Churches, The YMCA, Sylvan Hills Golf Course’ and The Police Dept. On every show that I have worked on someone from town tells me that they learned something new about the town that they didn’t know. Will see if that happens again.

Hollidaysburg

I just had the privilege of seeing the first sneak preview of Our Town Hollidaysburg and I would like to commend Charlie Gudeman and his Staff at WPSU for the remarkable job they have done putting this film together. We are all so impressed and delighted with how this talented film team has portrayed our cherished community.

We thoroughly enjoyed the charming little snippets of our lives and the colorful stories told by our residents. The film took us to places that many of us hardly think of and taught us things that many of us may have been unaware of. Although we are a small town, the editing staff showed our true nature, a proud town rich in history and beauty filled with genuinely gracious and lovable people.

I can’t believe that when people from other places see this film they would not be compelled to come here to visit. In fact this film makes me want to visit my own town even more.

I truly loved being part of this project, along with the 21 other videographers, who embarked on this adventure at the peak of sunny spring blossom, to capture this moment in time, to reveal this beautiful day in our town and to paint a spectacular moving portrait of our community with its people at their best.

Thank you WPSU for thinking about us and inviting us to participate in the Our Town Project. It was Our pleasure.

Northville, Michigan

I had the pleasure of visiting Hollidaysburg on several occaisions and have always been impressed by the warmth and friendliness of the people who live there. It reminds me of my own small home town in Michigan.

I love the downtown area, especially the the “Art 4 you” shop. The art is outstanding, and the shopowners are very knowledgeable. I think the merchandise is unique, interesting and a great place to spend some time.

I had the opportunity to do some biking in the area, and have enjoyed some long walks in the neighborhoods. I am impressed by the character of the homes, and the beautiful landscaping of the area. I also think the historic buildings are amazing, and love the old courthouse.

I look forward to visiting the town again and to seeing what else the city has to offer. There are a lot of places to visit and re-visit.

Come visit Northville MI sometime!
