Our Town Emporium Community Meeting Update!

Posted by Jessica on 04/12 at 02:59 PM

We’re less than a week away from the community volunteer meeting for “Our Town: Emporium”! By now, you’ve hopefully heard about the project—we’ve had a ton of great coverage so far! Several pieces have appeared in the local papers, we’ve had volunteers distributing flyers, and if you notice those small glossy cards on counters at local businesses, those are advertising the meeting as well! There was even a screening of “Our Town: Emporium” (2001) sponsored by the Cameron County Chamber (thanks, Tina!)!

But just as an extra reminder, we will be having an open community meeting on Wednesday, April 18th at the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department. At this meeting we will have a brief overview and training for the project, then we will sign volunteers up to tell their stories as part of the show! Volunteers will collect video and photos that will illustrate their stories, then, on April 28th at the Cameron County Chamber & Artisan Center, we will do an on-camera interview that will serve as the narration to your story.

There was a great question that I received via email that asked if volunteers had to wait until the meeting to start gathering their photos and videos—and the answer is that if you have a story that you would like to do, then most certainly please start getting your footage now! The more photos and videos that you have, the better your story is going to be!

Please continue to spread the word, and remember that video production experience is NOT needed! We just want enthusiastic people who have a great story to tell about Emporium and the greater Cameron County area!

For more information on the Our Town series on WPSU, please visit the show’s main page here.

See you on the 18th!
