Local Food Notes for September 5

Posted by Jamie Oberdick on 09/05 at 08:22 AM

Gemelli Bakers breads will be one of the good things to eat at the Plow to Plate Harvest Dinner on Sept. 10

September is here, the kids are back to school, and there’s even a bit of color showing up on the trees. Despite our summery heat and humidity this week, cooler days are just around the corner, and fall is a great time for local food. Here’s some quick updates on the local food scene:

- If you are going to the Friday Downtown State College Farmers Market, please keep in mind that you can get up to 30 minutes of parking validated. Please visit Janet at her Piper’s Peck stand to get your parking validated.

- The third annual Plow to Plate Harvest Dinner will be held at the Mount Nittany Winery Sept 10 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can learn more about this great event here. Proceeds benefit the Boalsburg Farmers’ Market Learning Kitchens, State College Area School District Elementary School Teaching Gardens, and Friends and Farmers Food Co-Op. Tickets are available at Tait Farm, Webster’s Café, and the Tuesday Boalsburg Farmers Market, and cost $35 per adult, with children under 12 complimentary. The ticket price includes one glass of wine per adult (must be 21 years of age).

- Attention gardeners: The Millheim Farmers Market, held Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion Pavilion on PA 45 includes the Penns Valley Learning Garden. The Garden featues pick-your-own seasonal vegetables, gardening information, and demonstrations.

- Hey PASA members…TODAY is the last day to be part of PASA’s Good Gifts Holiday Shopping Guide. The Good Gifts Guide is an important member benefit and PASA’s chance to spotlight members this holiday season by showcasing the variety of goods and services they have to offer. Their Good Gifts Guide promotion will run throughout the holiday gift giving season: October-December 2014.
