Best Bets - Week of 2/1/10

Posted by Greg Petersen on 01/31 at 07:39 PM

A Visit to “Shangri-La” and more….

Radio Feature: Fathers’ Rights – Thursday at 7:33am & 8:33am during “Morning Edition” – A bill that would change how child custody is awarded in the state heads to subcommittee today. Pennsylvania House Bill 463, introduced last year, would automatically award joint custody to parents in divorce cases; under current state law, custody is awarded based on the “best interests of the child.”  So-called “Fathers’ Rights” groups support H.B. 463, as they say the current system is biased against fathers. Interest groups concerned with family violence say that if the bill becomes law, perpetrators of domestic violence could gain custody of children.

Radio: WPSU’s This I Believe – Thursday at 5:45pm and Sunday at 9:00pm – This week’s essayist, Penn State professor Leann De Rues, believes in forgiveness, compassion, and the African concept of Ubuntu.

TV: BEFORE THERE WERE PARKS: YELLOWSTONE AND GLACIER THROUGH NATIVE EYES – Monday, 10:30pm – The Native American perspective on the Yellowstone and Glacier national parks is explored. The areas have long been considered significant and sacred by tribal people, whose ties to them stretch back at least 12,000 years.

TV: FRONTLINE – “Digital Nation” – Tuesday, 9pm – An exploration of how the Internet and digital technology are changing the way people work, learn and interact. Included: multitasking and its negative impact on attention spans; the use of technology to boost student attendance and test scores; and BlizzCon, the annual convention for the on-line games Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo.

TV: SECRETS OF SHANGRI-LA – Wednesday, 8pm – A fascinating chronicle of the journey to and exploration of long-abandoned, human-carved caves on steep cliffs in the kingdom of Mustang, located in a remote corner of the Himalaya.

Note: WPSU-TV will be holding a weekend pledge drive February 6th & 7th. Be sure to check the on-line listings at wpsu.org/tv/schedules for complete listing information.

It’s ashame that HB 463 must be voted on. There would not have been a need for this bill if Pennsylvania’s legislators
and Family Court Judge’s had not violated the Constitutional Rights of fathers and children to begin with. With the passing of HB 1639, Family Courts had to declare gender-neutral decisions since the Courts are and have been biased against men. Well known through Pa Family
Court reputation and crystal clear statistically. There are many more gender biased issues in the family Court system. These are the practies and procedures of the court themselves where father is guilty until proven innocent. These make it immpossible for the innocent to prevail, coercion and persecution.
