Our Town

An Amazing Evening for WPSU and the Sheffield Area

Posted by Charlie G on 09/17 at 02:52 PM

Last Thursday night, I stood in front of a TV camera in WPSU’s studios and
was awed by the generosity and enthusiasm of the friendly folks in the
Sheffield area. We spent the evening airing the locally created production
“Our Town: Sheffield and the Valley” and invited viewers to become members
of WPSU-TV and receive a DVD of the program. The program was also repeated
the Sunday, the 13th.

The response was astounding!

More than 230 pledges were called in during the two broadcasts, contributing
over $18,676. to support their favorite public TV station, WPSU.

We do several “Our Town” programs each year, and each time, we are
always grateful for the tremendous amount of volunteerism, enthusiasm, and
monetary support from the individuals, families, and businesses in these
wonderful local towns. But, the Sheffield area went the extra mile.
Sheffield area residents invested a great deal of time to make this
production come together. Even the local businesses showed great support by
offering underwriting to cover some of the costs of the production. The
Valley’s enthusiasm made a world of difference.
The “Our Town” series makes my colleagues and I proud to work for a local
public broadcasting station where we have the opportunity to highlight
special towns Sheffield and their unique stories. Thank you to the
residents, businesses and friends of the Sheffield area for telling their
stories and supporting WPSU with such generosity.

Gosh, that’s one of the best edited shows I think I’ve seen!  Keep up the good work!
