Your Local Food Weekend for September 28-29

A variety of local organic produce is available at the Central PA Farmers Market and Flea Market at the Grange Fairgrounds

This weekend’s local food event list is highlighted by Oktoberfests at Tussey Mountain and Millheim, a new farmers market at the Grange Fairgrounds, Gamble Mill MusicFest, and last but not least, the WPSU International Wine Festival. Quite a slate of things to do! To learn more, keep reading…

Gamble Mill Music Fest, Gamble Mill Inn, Bellefonte, Friday through Sunday

The Gamble Mill Inn has made quite a name for itself as a fine dining restaurant, and recently, they’ve added outstanding microbrews to their stellar reputation. They’ve branched out into offering live music, and this weekend, they are presenting their first Gamble Mill Music Fest. The event will feature local female vocalists. Tickets are just $15 for all three evenings or $8 a night.

Central PA Farmers Market and Flea Market, Grange Fairgrounds, Centre Hall, Saturday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

A new farmers market and flea market has opened at the Grange Fairgrounds in Centre Hall. At this new market, you can find anything from local honey and produce to electronic items. Plenty of free parking is available, and if you are interested in selling and not buying, they are looking for vendors also.

Oktoberfest in Millheim, Millheim Fire Company, Saturday 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Dig out the lederhosen and Bavarian dresses, as you will have two opportunities to celebrate Oktoberfest in Central Pennsylvania this weekend. Elk Creek Cafe + Aleworks is presenting Oktoberfest in Millheim to benefit the Millheim Fire Co. The event will feature music by The MacGillicuddie Polka Explosion, which is likely not as dangerous as it sounds, and Elk Creek’s OktoberFresh Festival Ale. The Penn College Catering Class will provide a variety of tasty German specialties made with ingredients from local vendors. Please note: this event is being held at the fire company grounds, not the Elk Creek Cafe.

Tussey Mountain Oktoberfest, Tussey Mountain, Boalsburg, Saturday 4:00-9:00 p.m.

Tussey Mountain is holding a night of German food, great beer, and all sorts of Oktoberfest-related fun, including a keg rolling contest and a stein holding contest. Grain, Erin Condo & the Hoofties, and The Bavarian Stompers will provide the music for a fun night that will make you think you are in Bavaria. Hey, Central PA even looks like Germany, right?

WPSU International Wine Festival, Penn Stater Conference Center and Hotel, University Park, Sunday, 1:30-5:00 p.m.

A few local wine makers are part of Sunday’s WPSU International Wine Festival. While the A Taste of Italy Wine and Food Pairing Seminar is sold out, there are still tickets available for the Grand Tasting Indoor Wine Market. Live music, food tastings, and an on-site Fine Wine & Good Spirits store provides an enjoyable afternoon of wine tasting not found elsewhere in central Pennsylvania. A silent auction will offer dining opportunities, baskets, wine accessories, and art.
