Welcome to Tony Igy’s World

Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of dance music. I usually go through a dance music phase once a month. I prefer earlier sounds like old school house, especially acid house. But I like some of the newer stuff, too. I don’t know too many names, but there is one DJ who has satisfied me with his sounds consistently. His name is Tony Igy.

I’m not sure how to pronounce his surname, and I don’t know much about him, except that he’s Russian. Mystery always makes things better (well, not always, but anyway). I was actually introduced to him when I heard Iggy Azalea’s “My World” about two years ago. She sampled his most notable piece “Astronomia.” I had to find out who created this electronic masterpiece (because that’s pretty much the only thing that made Azalea’s song worth listening to), and after a little bit of research, I discovered Tony Igy. I was hooked. Songs like “Deceit of Sight,” “Train,” and “Pentagramma” have been played over and over again on repeat during workouts, homework, and cooking.

Recently, I stumbled upon a new song by Igy: “Selection.” It’s new to me, but it’s been out for a while now. How could I have missed it? It’s repetitive smooth beats relax me and simultaneously make me want to dance. Now, I’ve been reawakened to his music, listening to him on repeat like before. I’m not well-versed in the EDM world, but based on the big names of the genre, Tony Igy doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves. Maybe I’m just biased.

For people who avoid dance music, I say give it a chance. Sometimes I feel embarrassed admitting I listen to dance music because I know people automatically think of pop. But like any genre, when you dig deep enough you find some gems, Igy being one of them. Listen to “Astronomia,” posted below. I think it’s a good way to be introduced to this genre.
