Umphrey’s McGee to Play The State Theatre

Posted by Alexandra Voigt on 01/28 at 03:41 PM

Umphrey’s McGee, a Chicago-based progressive jam-band renowned for their spontaneous, three-hour live sessions, will play the State Theatre on Wednesday, February 2nd at 9pm. In the past, Umphrey’s McGee has played multiple summer festivals such as Bonnaroo, Rothbury, All Good, and Lollapalooza. They’ve also done numerous European tours. Already moving full-throttle in their 2011 Winter Tour, the six-member “improg” group of virtuosity has an enormous and eclectic selection of songs to unveil before the mostly student-based body.

Having formed in December of 1997, the band has assembled an extensive list of live and studio recorded albums. Mantis (2009) was their latest, wildly successful studio effort. So come meet the improv-inspired jammers and witness an evening of relentless music. If you’re lucky enough, you could be one of the first to experience the band’s newest song live: “Wellwishers.”

Bio: [Alex] is currently a senior double majoring in Print Journalism and International Studies with a double minor in Music Technology and French. As random as all that may seem, Alex’s true passion lies within the art of music and the countless characteristics of rock and roll. Growing up to everything classic rock, she indulges in Led Zeppelin, The Doors, CCR, The Animals, Neil Young up through 90s grunge and today’s indie/folk rock and electro beats like: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Spoon, The Black Keys, TV on the Radio and Bassnectar!, (don’t turn away, that is only a taste of the list). Alex also loves using music programs like Logic Pro to mix, modulate and place different effects on songs, which is why electronic/techno and dubstep play an essential factor in her everyday life.
