The Bear Rhymes with Woman Tour at the State Theatre

Behind this seemingly bizarre tour name are three artists who will provide a melodious, mellow night of music at The State Theatre on Thursday, October 15th.

Opening act Dawn Landes sings and plays a repertoire of quirky, energetic folk and indie pop tunes. She recently recorded a bluegrass version of Peter Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks” and has been touring Europe with Elvis Perkins in Dearland in support of her upcoming album Sweet Heart Radio. Her songs vary stylistically, some featuring acoustic guitar and banjo while others are electronic pop. Check out this acoustic performance.

Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers is a roots-rock, alt-country band from Massachusetts. Their music carries stylistic echoes of groups like Wilco, Neil Young, and Tom Petty. The band’s latest single, “The Bear”, is a bluesy feel-good anthem with a hint of humor (with lyrics like “the monkeys in Madagascar will all have a laugh about you”). Tour headliners Carbon Leaf have been releasing albums since they formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1992. Since “Life Less Ordinary”, the single from their 2004 album Indian Summer, reached #5 on the Adult Album Alternative chart, Carbon Leaf has had a wide following. The quintet plays smooth melodic rock songs that invite you to listen – they’re harmonious and relatable. Hints of blues, folk, and Celtic music make the band stand out from the crowd of today’s rock bands. Their newest and self-proclaimed ‘most mature’ album, Nothing Rhymes with Woman, was released in May 2009 by Vanguard. Check out this soothing song from Indian Summer.
