Techno Meets Classical at the State Theatre

What kind of music would Mozart write if he were alive today? Would he stick with string quartets and sonatas or throw in a few synth tracks and electric guitars?

That’s the question Professor Max Fomitchev, known in the underground dance/techno scene as Ultramax, would like to answer.

On April 10th, Fomitchev (or rather, Ultramax) and the Penn State Electric Light Quartet will perform Technoclassica 2.0 at the State Theatre.

The event will be a multimedia mélange of classical music, techno, and special effects (including computer engineered electric instruments that respond to sound with lights, videos, and lasers). Selections will include original music as well as canonical pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, and Prokofiev.

Technoclassica 2.0 may leave good old Amadeus rolling in his grave. Or maybe it will spark a renaissance for classical music and bring orchestras and symphonies into the twenty-first century, alive and kicking to a techno groove.
