Movin’ On 2012: Today 3PM - 11PM

Posted by David Porter Callanan on 04/27 at 09:50 AM

As graduation approaches, Penn State seniors filled with bittersweet emotions can distract themselves (temporarily) this today at the 38th annual Movin’ On concert funded by UPAC. Admission to the concert is free to the public and will be held on the fields behind the intramural building.

The show will consist of a variety of acts and will be kicked off by local artists Keegan Tawa and The Wondershop Showdown. Those 30 minute sets will be followed by an hour from both David Mayfield Parade and Young The Giant (presented by SPA). Michael Franti and Spearhead and headliners Ludacris and The Avett Brothers will all preform hour and half sets to close out the show. Headliners for the show were chosen by students online earlier this year.

The concert was established in 1974 and is one of the largest student run annual concerts in the country. According to the event’s website, “Movin’ on brings the top music of today, tomorrow and yesterday together as a celebration of those graduating Nittany Lions “movin’ on” in their academic and professional lives.” Past performers have included Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, Talib Kweli, Reel Big Fish, Jewel, Run DMC, Ben Folds, Wilco, Bowling For Soup and last year’s headliners Lupe Fiasco and O.A.R.

Last year’s show received a generally positive response from students except for the fact that Lupe Fiasco kept referring to PSU as the University of Penn. The positive response from last year is thanks to UPAC separating themselves from the association of resident hall students, which made funding go from $80,000 to $250,000 for the concert.
