Miley Cyrus Now Rapping?

Posted by Jessica Gold on 10/03 at 03:51 PM

Miley Cyrus’ image is changing by the day. Not only has she completely reinvented her style, but lately she has become even more entertaining because of her new found obsession with twerking. Oxford dictionary defines the word “twerk” as: a dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance

Cyrus’ twerking began during a Juicy J concert a few months ago. He brought her on stage to showcase her talents to a full audience with Juicy J’s single, “Bands a Make Her Dance” playing in the background. The video went viral. Cyrus even twerks in the music video for her single, “We Won’t Stop.” But now, twerking isn’t the only addition to her new image. She’s moving away from her pop music roots and towards rapping. This may not last forever, but Cyrus is definitely broadening her musical horizons and fanbase.

Last week, the music video for “23” was released. This single was produced by Mike WiLL Made It and features Miley Cyrus, Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa. “23” refers to the legendary Michael Jordan. It doesn’t specifically address him until a line in Wiz Khalifa’s verse that says “tongue out like out like Jordan,” but in the hook Cyrus sings “Tatted up, mini skirt with my J’s on.” Jordan sneakers are also known as J’s.

The music video begins with Cyrus writing “23” in fiery red lipstick on a high school bathroom’s mirror . She’s decked out in Jordan apparel as well. One of her outfits is a custom-made jersey two-piece. Her top is a Chicago Bulls bralette and her bottoms are high-waisted with the number 23 on them. Cyrus is also seen in a black, red, and white Chicago Bulls jersey-dress while sporting fresh, Jordan sneakers.

Cyrus sings the hook and bridge of the song, but she also has an entire verse that debuts her rapping abilities. Her catchiest line is, “I’m MC Hammer fly, you can’t touch. J’s so fly I should work at Flight Club.”

Her reference to MC Hammer is clever, and so is her allusion to Flight Club since the store is known for its elaborate collection of sneakers.
