Meet Music’s Newest Cover Girl: Birdy

Posted by Brittany Barth on 10/30 at 04:30 PM

While browsing through the Spotify Radio App, I stumbled across a gem by the name of Birdy.

Spotify was featuring her self-titled debut album, Birdy, which does not include any original songs, but covers.

Birdy provides fourteen renditions of songs from various artists on the album. My personal favorites include her versions of “1901” by Phoenix, “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver and especially “White Winter Hymnal” by Fleet Foxes.

Birdy covers everything from James Taylor to Cherry Ghost to The Postal Service, creating an album that is completely versatile. While all of her covers remain respectful to the original versions, she creates an entirely different listening experience through her interpretations. Each song she covers takes on a new life.

It is evident from this album that Birdy is an artist to watch, and who has the potential to create an incredible sophomore album.

{name} Author: Brittany Barth
Bio: My name is Brittany Barth, an English major currently in my senior year at Penn State. I am a lover of food, John Mayer, all things nautical and cats. It has always been a dream of mine to be the lead singer of a (successful) band. After graduation, my goal is to become a Young Adult fiction novelist, but I would love to be an advice columnist prior to that. I am excited about graduation and what the future holds for me!
