Local food notes for April 24

Farmers markets are opening (despite the chill), Mt. Nittany Winery’s 25th Anniversary Dinner, Wine trail, learn how to grow herbs at Tait Farms, and Friends & Farmers looking for delivery drivers. Read on to learn more:

- Never mind the snow and cold, there’s outdoor farmers markets opening! Tomorrow, the Bellefonte Farmers Market opens the season from 8:00 a.m. to noon across from the Gamble Mill Inn. Then next Tuesday, the Tuesday State College Farmers Market opens on Locust Lane in downtown State College.

- Mt. Nittany Winery’s 25th Anniversary Dinnerr will be held tomorrow from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Winery. The event will be catered by Brown Dog Catering, with Winery wine pairings for each course. Cost is $55 per person and reservations can be made by calling 814-466-6373.

- Speaking of wine, from now through April 30 you can participate in the Central PA Tasting Trail, a craft beer, spirits, and wine experience at various locations such as Robin Hood Brewing Co./Home D, Bellefonte or State College; Elk Creek Cafe + Aleworks; Happy Valley Brewing Co.; Otto’s Pub & Brewery/Keewaydin Cider Mill; Big Spring Spirits; Good Intent Cider; Happy Valley Vineyard & Winery; Mt. Nittany Vineyard & Winery; and Seven Mountains Wine Cellars. Get your Tasting Trail ticket stamped at various locations, and once it’s filled you will be eligible to win prizes such as stays at local hotels/bed and breakfasts, concert tickets, gift cards, gift baskets, dinners, and more.

- Tomorrow at 2:00 p.m., you can learn how to grow herbs via an informal presentation by Cindy Law and Kim Tait at Tait Farms. Also, next Saturday they will hold their Gardeners Open House (more details on that next week here on Local Food Journey).

- And finally, Friends & Farmers are looking for delivery drivers for its Online Market. Drivers must report to Good Shepherd Church by 3:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, and plan to deliver until 6:30 p.m. Drivers earn $5 per delivery.
