Karen’s Song of the Week: “Feel the Love†by Hoodie Allen
Posted by Karen Marchuska on 09/04 at 07:07 PM
Earlier in the summer I profiled two rising rap artists, and one of them debuted a brand new song last week. Hoodie Allen dropped the track “Feel the Love†and it’s definitely one of his best yet.
This song is dedicated to his fans, affectionately known as “The Hoodie Mob,†which is why he released it as a free download. The song shows that he’s at a great point in his career. In the track Hoodie makes topical references, such as “feeling like King Charles, partying like Harry” (an obvious reference to Prince Harry’s latest scandal)
Though produced by Hoodie’s longtime friend and producer, RJF, the track is different than most of his recent work because it samples and essentially remakes “Feel the Love†by British quartet Rudimental, featuring soul singer John Newman. This original version recently rocketed to the top of the UK Singles and Dance charts. Hoodie’s re-interpretation of the track will surely win it a lot of popularity with American audiences as well. RJF really outdid himself in this track, flawlessly overlaying multiple beats and adding in fun extra sounds like a bell ring at the beginning. The song flows well, and follows right along with the mix of singing and rapping he showed in his latest EP All American.
This track is infectiously catchy and stays true to his Hoodie Mob, saying: “But I found the best fans, you phonies should fess up, cause you ain’t touching them, but you’d like to.†Hoodie also enlisted the help of a fan in creating the lyric video for the song. After hearing this and his other recently released free single, “Hey Now,†I can’t wait for Hoodie Allen’s next full-length album to drop.
