Julian Lage Preview

Posted by Charlee Redman on 10/13 at 03:16 PM

Julian Lage has accomplished something that most 21 year-olds can’t lay claim to – he’s already released an album and played as a studio musician for over a decade. Lage’s Sounding Point came out earlier this year on EmArcy Records and now the young guitarist is touring the U.S., with a stop this Tuesday evening at the Schwab Auditorium.

Lage, along with his five-piece band, perform a variety of compositions and improvise their way through a unique selection influenced by jazz, blues, folk, and classical music. A distinct sensitivity to harmony and careful attention to each note is evident in Lage’s playing style. There are none of the lengthy, difficult-to-follow solo runs that turn many people away from jazz in Lage’s music.

In the past, Lage has played with musicians like Béla Fleck and Herbie Hancock. His developing style, which came into fruition on Sounding Point, will be a refreshing burst of musical genre and talent for a Tuesday evening.

You can listen to Julian Lage on Myspace, check out a bio and more on his website, or watch videos of past performances.
