Introducing the Blue Robot Summer 2013 Writers

Posted by Pat Baxter on 05/23 at 03:55 PM

Blue Robot is back in the game with three new writers ready to tell their stories of music happening here in State College and across America. Meet the new writers who are blogging this summer, and stay tuned for their upcoming articles!

Kayla Tooma

Kayla Tooma is a senior majoring in English at Penn State. She hails from the great island of Long Island, NY. When she’s not writing, she can be found playing piano, reading medieval literature, watching unhealthy amounts of space documentaries, and making some kind of lame pun. Her favorite genres include a variety of rock, pop, indie, and metal.  Some of her favorite artists include My Chemical Romance, Lana Del Rey, Queen, MIKA, No Doubt, Lady Gaga, HIM, The Smiths, The Jane Austen Argument, The Beatles, Beirut, The Dresden Dolls, and The White Stripes.  She also has a sweet spot for pop goddesses like Cher, Madonna, and Britney Spears.

Shamir Lee

Shamir Lee is a senior majoring in Advertising. She’s a writer for Penn State’s CRITIQUE, a student-run business magazine. Additionally, she has created ads and flyers for One Heart, an organization fighting against child sexual abuse. She’s interested in looking at cats, doing ballet, exercising, and ending animal cruelty. In her free time, she enjoys watching horror movies, some of her favorites being Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue and the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (“sorry, I just really like the cinematography”). Music is a big part of her life, as she plays piano, a little bit of guitar, and used to play saxophone. Some of her favorite musicians are Jason Becker, BUCK-TICK, Megadeth, Aivi Tran, Missing Persons, Nina Hagen, Prince, and Koji Kondo.

Brandon Vesely

Brandon Vesely is originally from the Pittsburgh area and is currently a junior majoring in Public Relations and Spanish at Penn State.  In his free time he enjoys reading, writing, biking, and spending time outdoors.  His musical interests are wide-ranging and include a variety of alternative genres including post-hardcore, indie, noise pop, and pop punk.  Some of his favorite artists are Bayside, Yeasayer, Phantogram, and Fireworks.
