Hip Hop Artists Bring the Beat (For Free) March 18th

Posted by Charlee Redman on 03/01 at 07:12 PM

Some people have all the luck and talent. Hip hop artist Mike Posner is one of these fortunate people. He’s a senior at Duke University majoring in sociology and business, he recently signed a record deal with Sony’s J Records, and he’ll be performing on Bamboozle and Warped Tour later this year. He’s only 21 years old. His music is fresh, stylistically varied, and never quite you’d expect - not exactly pop, or hip hop, but something drawn from diverse influences.

Posner will perform at the HUB on March 18th with upcoming rapper Big Sean, who got his break from one of the industry’s most famous artists - Kanye West. In 2006 Big Sean signed with G.O.O.D. Music/Island Def Jam and released his first mixtape Finally Famous in 2009. Big Sean’s sharp-witted lyrics about city life and overcoming adversity will bring a little Detroit to State College.

Mash up artist DJ Benzi will play as well, providing a mix of rap and club dance music (think Girl Talk with more hip hop).

The concert, hosted by PSMA and sponsored by UPAC, will be free. Tickets will be available for those with PSU student IDs at the HUB on March 3rd from 10am-4pm.

When:  Thursday March 18th
          doors 7:30pm, show 8-11pm
Where: HUB Alumni Hall
Tickets: free w/ student ID
          March 3, 10am-4pm HUB
