Latin Music, Oregano and Cows, and The State of the University

WPSU’s StoryCorps: Mary and Ulicia Gage – Tuesday at 7:33am and 8:33am – Ulicia Gage talks to her mother, Mary Gage, about her childhood in England during WWII when her father was in a concentration camp.

Radio Feature: Oregano Reduces Cow Methane – Wednesday at 7:33am and 8:33am – Cows release a lot of methane into the atmosphere.  A Penn State professor might have the solution…oregano.  WPSU’s Emily Reddy talks to a Penn State professor whose research could cut cow methane emissions and increase milk output.

Radio Feature: Pennsylvania People, Jack Troy – Friday at 6:50 and 8:50am - WPSU’s Patty Satalia profiles potter Jack Troy for her recurring series Pennsylvania People.

TV: American Masters: Cachao: Uno Mas – Monday, 9pm – Andy Garcia narrates “Cachao: Uno Mas,” a profile of influential Cuban mambo musician Israel “Cachao” Lopez (1918-2008). Footage from a 2005 San Francisco gig and a nostalgic conversation with him, Garcia and saxophonist Ray Santos spice the doc.

TV: To the Best of My Knowledge – Tuesday, 8pm – President Graham B. Spanier’s present his annual State of the University.  The video explores the dynamic nature of Penn State, Pennsylvania’s only land-grant university, educating more than 94,000 students, employing more than 40,000 people and generating more than $8.5 billion annually in economic impact for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

TV: Live From Lincoln Center – Wednesday, 8pm – “New York Philharmonic: Opening Night Concert 2010” – The opening-night gala for the New York Philharmonic features music director Alan Gilbert conducting the U.S. premiere of Wynton Marsalis’ “Jazz Symphony.”
