An Artist That’s Sure To Tempt You: Anjulie

Let me first preface this review by stating that if you’re searching for new music, look no further than the Spotify Radio App. I have been introduced to a world of incredible artists that I would not have experienced otherwise.

One of those artists is Canadian based singer-songwriter, Anjulie.

The twenty-nine-year-old debuted her self-titled album Anjulie in 2009. The singer, who provides her audience with an album that is ideal for easy listening, also showcases her very sultry take on music.

When listening to the album, you’ll feel as though Anjulie is slowing luring you into her boudoir. “Some Dumb Girl,” the third track on the album, is perhaps her sexiest, naughtiest song. Take a listen to it and you’ll understand just what I mean. She’s got a voice that’s sweet like honey, and the promise of her songs are oh-so-tempting.

Nearly every song on the album is sexy, enticing and intimate. Her lyrics revolve around her relationships with her lovers, some of which are so passionate they verge on dangerous. Her song “Fatal Attraction” describes how she murdered the girlfriend of her ex-lover because she could not stand the thought of them being together. While the context of the lyrics is heavy, if not disturbing, the music remains relaxed like the rest of her album.

And while Anjulie has no problem showing her sexual side she also reveals the fun, flirty aspect of her album with songs such as “Same Damn Thing” and “Love Songs.” Other songs on the album include “Colombia” which has an air of bossanova and “The Heat” which has an island vibe.

While the album is completely cohesive, Anjulie still manages to surprise her listeners with unexpected rhythms and refreshing lyrics. She’s sure to become an artist that you’ll be tempted to listen to again and again and again.
