It’s Local Foods Week in central Pennsylvania! Celebrate the farms, markets, restaurants, and businesses that support our regional food system. Then wrap up the week with the 6th Annual Farm Tour sponsored by PASA and Buy Fresh Buy Local.

Pack your cooler, hop in your car (or on your bike), and explore our beautiful agrarian landscape this Saturday from 12:30pm-5:00pm. Continue reading for more details.

The goal of the Farm Tour is to connect you with the farms and farmers of Centre County. There are 20 farms featured on this year’s tour—from Boalsburg to Bellefonte and Penns Valley to Potters Mills. Cost is $15 per car or $5 per biker, and tickets can be purchased at local markets this week or at the first farm you visit.

Meet Brian Burger from the Penns Valley Learning Garden whose mission it is to educate the community on the origins of our food. Find out how to compost; learn how to save seeds; taste food from a solar oven; and more.

Then visit Warren Leitzel of Ecosophy Farm, which features a field full of sunflowers, an orchard of peaches and persimmons, shiitake mushroom logs, and a seed garlic operation that brings in 11,000 bulbs.

And, if you’re lucky, you may also run into a few feathered friends, as well.

Other highlights on the tour include samples of cheeses and fudges from Goot Essa in Howard, salsas and hot pepper jellies from The Piper’s Peck in Bellefonte, fresh-from-the-field vegetables from Greenmore Gardens CSA in Port Matilda, and raw honey from Demeter’s Garden in Spring Mills. Get a full list of participating farms and a map of locations on the PASA website.

Hope to see you!
