Eat local, support local at fundraiser for Friends & Farmers Cooperative

Editor’s note: The following is a press release regarding a fundraiser by Friends & Farmers Cooperative. Please help support what is a very worthy cause for our local food community.

Friends & Farmers Cooperative, which is working to open a member-owned cooperative grocery that will specialize in local, sustainably-produced products, is holding a fundraising event at Spats at 5-7:30 p.m, January 26.
Entitled “Local on the Menu,” the event will offer community members a behind-the-scenes look at the local food scene and an opportunity to hear firsthand how Spats owner, Duke Gastiger, and others are turning local into a point of Pennsylvania pride.

Singer-songwriter duo Brad Fey and Kevin Briggs from the “The Feats of Strength” will play acoustic guitar and mandolin.

Tickets are available online only at www.friendsandfarmers.coop/spats for $38. Cost includes dinner, wine and dessert. Whether you’re an omnivore, carnivore, vegetarian or vegan, the menu—much like the grocery store Friends & Farmers envisions—includes something for everyone.

The event will showcase food from more than a dozen local farms and producers including:

* Local cheese from Stone Meadow Farm, Clover Creek and Byler Goat Dairy
* Gemelli Bakers bread
* Local meat from Cow-a-Hen, Bergenblick Farm, and Tamarack Farm
* Local cider form J.L. Farm
* Fish from Wild for Salmon and Elk Creek Fish Hatchery
* Shrub from Tait Farm
* Tait Farm Fig & Olive Relish created by Harrison Schailey, chef at Harrison’s Wine Grill
* Local vegetables from Jade Family Farm
* Stuffed pitas from Eden View Organics
* Fasta & Ravioli Co. pasta
* Maple candy from Beiler Family Farm
* Elk Creek beer

* Please note, Spats continues to add local farms/producers, so please check back with us for updates before publicizing.

Friends & Farmers incorporated in the winter of 2013 and has made many public appearances at community events, promoting its mission and vision, recruiting volunteers and spreading the word. The cooperative is currently planning a membership launch for early March.
