PA Organic FarmFest and Centre County Farm Tour close out Local Foods Week

Local Foods Week winds down today and tomorrow with two big events…Pennsylvania Organic FarmFest (today, Aug. 7, and tomorrow, Aug. 8) and the Centre County Farm Tour (tomorrow, Aug. 8).

First off, the FarmFest, which will run today from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Grange Fairgrounds in Centre Hall. The event will feature a variety of delicious local food (including the chance Saturday to sample and judge Friends & Farmers Pie Contest, live music, 5K run and 1K fun run, a variety of outdoor activities, and plenty of opportunities to learn more about organic agriculture.

The learning opportunities include a session on organic pest control, homesteading sessions, an expanded Wool Village featuring lots of demos, kids activities, and more. The outdoor activities will include biking opportunities, hay rides, and camping will be available.

FarmFest is family friendly, and they even welcome the four-legged members of your family. For more information on the event’s pet policy please go here.

On Saturday, take advantage of the opportunity get to know your food, your farmer, and how the farmers produce that great food you buy locally. Each farm will feature a step in the process of growing your food. Some farms will have products available for purchase, and many offer samples or a chance to pet animals.

The farm tour is self-service and customizable by you, so you can choose where to go—either by purchasing one pass to cover you at all of the farms ($15 per car or $10 per bike) or by paying $5 per farm.
