Local Food Notes for Jan. 27
Posted by Jamie Oberdick on 01/27, 2017 at 02:05 PM
This week’s local food notes features PASA’s Farming for the Future Conference, Clearfield’s Groundhog Trail Wine Festival, Tait Farm has ideas to make you the soup and sandwich master, and the Nutrition Habit Challenge.
- The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture’s Farming for the Future conference brings together thousands of farmers, local food activists, backyard gardeners, sustainable ag industry partners and experts from the field for several days of education, socializing, good food, and networking. One of the premier local food events in the East, the event includes breakout sessions, featured speakers, workshops, evening social events, and more. The event is help Feb. 1-4 at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. Early registration is closed but walk-ins are welcome.
- The 10th Annual Groundhog Trail Festival will be held at the Clearfield Fairgrounds Saturday, Jan. 28. This festival features a variety of Pennsylvania-made wine for tasting, plus a craft/prepared food fair, and live entertainment. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 814-236-0910.
- It’s cold again, and Tait Farm has you covered. Up your soup and sandwich game by attending their Saturday Tasting tomorrow from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Learn how to make unique and delicious soups and sandwiches that go way beyond toasted cheese and tomato soup (not that there’s anything wrong with tomato soup and toasted cheese).
- The Nutrition Habit Challenge (NHC) is a community-wide wellness initiative designed to educate, motivate and inspire community members to take personal responsibility for improving their health habits. Using the “less is more” philosophy, the NHC encourages participants to make a manageable nutrition commitment for the month of February. Learn how to sign up and get healthy at the NHC website.
