Among the least talked-about public health problems we face is suicide. In the United States, 30,000 people take their own lives every year, making suicide more prevalent than homicide. Suicide affects everyone, but race and ethnicity do affect suicidal behavior, and cultural competence is critical to suicide prevention efforts.
