The thirty-six day campaign to capture Iwo Jima was the bloodiest in the history of the U.S. Marines, and it was the only one in which the Marine's losses exceeded those of the Japanese. Our guest tonight, Colonel Gerald Russell served 28 years in the Marine Corps and is the last living infantry battalion commander who had Navajo code talkers assigned to him.
