Pennsylvania Inside Out: Consumer-Friendly Solar Energy
Pennsylvania Inside Out: Consumer-Friendly Solar Energy
Running our homes on energy from the sun seems like a logical idea. After all, our sun fuels the operation of the entire planet...and then some. But converting the sun's energy into something that's consumer-friendly is no easy task, so the federal government has challenged the world's leading universities to come up with their best solutions. Twenty schools were selected--among them, Penn State. With a complex beginning, the project will have simplified benefits for central Pennsylvania. Spring is here, and that means a fresh start to the shared children's reading initiative called "One Book, Every Young Child." The program is designed to inspire children aged three-to-six (and the people who love them) to embrace reading and literacy. This year's book is "A Splendid Friend, Indeed," and our cameras caught up with author Suzanne Bloom...reading at the library. The oil industry started here in Pennsylvania, and as you might expect, one of the first oil refineries started here in Pennsylvania, too. That was in 1881...and as we find out in tonight's Where's Charlie, it still works! Mulch can be applied any time of year, but the best time to do it right about now--late spring, after the soil has warmed. Tom Butzler is here with some thought on "why" we should use mulch, then he's off to the Clinton County Landfill to see how waste wood is turned into wood mulch.
