Pennsylvania Inside Out: CASA

To an abused or neglected child who finds himself in “the system,” a Court Appointed Special Advocate – or CASA – is a hero. CASAs provide a voice for the children and an extra set of eyes and ears for the judges. The idea of using citizen advocates began in a Seattle, Washington, courtroom in 1977 and has grown into the most highly acclaimed volunteer model in the courts. Today there are more than 59,000 volunteers serving nearly a quarter-million children in local program offices nationwide. Pennsylvania is home to eighteen CASA programs. Pennsylvania Inside Out's' Patty Satalia recently visited CASA of Lycoming County. Tune in to her report.
