Many of the wealthiest and most powerful Americans belong to the Catholic Church, so it may seem strange to claim any kind of victim status for Roman Catholics. But according to Philip Jenkins, distinguished professor of History and Religious Studies at Penn State, anti-Catholicism is so ingrained and persistent that bigotry toward Catholics is still widely accepted. His book, The New Anti-Catholicism: the Last Acceptable Prejudice, is published by Oxford Press.
