Each year Americans suffer more than 4 million sports-related injuries. Doing too much too soon is one common cause of injuries. Overusing or misusing a muscle or joint is another. Experts say we could reduce the rate of injury—and the frustration from missed playing time—if we just followed a few simple rules. Wayne Sebastinelli, M.D., a surgeon at Penn State Orthopedics and the director of Penn State’s Center for Sports Medicine, and Dean Plafcan, the lead physical therapist at Penn State Orthopedics talk about the latest techniques for treating sports injuries.
